Jamie Clark

Jamie Clark is a watercolor artist who specializes in dog portraits. She has always loved art and animals, which makes her profession a perfect match.

While always an artist at heart, she didn’t know she wanted to paint pets until much later. She earned her art education degree and discovered her love of watercolors. After getting married and having her first child, she began looking for ways to create art while staying at home. She explored digital art, landscapes, house portraits, and painting families until she landed on pet portraiture in 2017 and knew she had found her place. She has now painted thousands of pets and still gets excited every time she starts a new piece.

She loves interacting with pet owners, hearing stories about their animals, and strives to capture each pet’s unique personality in her portraits.

Jamie is passionate about sharing what she’s learned with other artists. She creates watercolor courses designed to teach the techniques she has developed over the years, from a comprehensive class that walks students through everything she’s learned about painting pet portraits, to beginner - friendly workshops that help new artists build confidence and a strong foundation in watercolor.

She is a wife and mother to three. You can usually find her in her studio with her two dogs curled up at her feet or cuddled on her lap while she paints.

I’ve been using Canson® XL® Watercolor paper for all of my paintings over the past several years, and it’s been a staple in my process. It dries quickly, which makes it easy to build up multiple layers, which is perfect for creating realistic fur in my pet portraits. It handles heavy washes beautifully without breaking down, even with lots of detailed layering. I also love the texture and the creamy white tone of the paper.
